Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage upcoming events

Free for the holidays? The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, 2929 Richmond Road in Beachwood has a number of upcoming events. From a Hanukkah candlelighting open to people of all faiths to a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration, there are several upcoming no-cost opportunities for the community to engage with the Cleveland cultural hub.

Dec. 25, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., "Give What You Can, Pay What You Can"

- Guided Drop-In Tours of This Light of Ours noon, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

- Freedom Riders Screening & Talkback - 2 p.m.

Bring a canned good donation and/or pay what you can toward Museum admission.

Celebrate the giving spirit of the holiday season. Make a donation to explore the inspiring stories in the Museum's newest exhibition--This Light of Ours: Activist Photographers of the Civil Rights Movement, see the treasures in The Temple-Tifereth Israel Gallery and share in the Jewish immigrant experiences that make up An American Story. The day also includes a chance to create welcome cards for new immigrants to Northeast Ohio and a special screening of the acclaimed Freedom Riders documentary with associate producer Stacey Holman. Kosher food from BlueStar Cafe available for purchase. Canned goods will be donated to the Semach Sedek R.I.A.S. Kosher Food Bank & Pantry and the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.

Dec. 28, 5 to 6 p.m., "Friends of the Maltz Museum's Hanukkah Candlelighting"

Free with registration.

Children of all backgrounds are invited to celebrate the Jewish festival of lights. Sing songs, play the dreidel game, go on a museum scavenger hunt, learn the story of Hanukkah and indulge in a sweet cookie reception. Presented by Friends of the Maltz Museum.

Jan 16, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Hear Our Voices: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration (Free)

See how iconic civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., and everyday citizens risked everything to change America in the This Light of Ours: Activist Photographers of the Civil Rights Movement exhibition, share a cause you would fight for and hear music from local artists on this family-friendly day. Support from the Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.

Feb 20, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friends of the Maltz Museum's Presidents' Day Celebration (Free)

Celebrate Presidents' Day with hands-on leadership-inspired activities and a chance to hear from past Presidents like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, FDR and Theodore Roosevelt from 1 - 2:30 p.m. Presented by Friends of the Maltz Museum.

Ongoing exhibit

This Light of Ours: Activist Photographers of the Civil Rights Movement (Through May 14, 2017) Featuring videos, interactives and 157 black-and-white photographs, This Light of Ours offers a stirring look at inequities and tensions past and present, challenging visitors to play a role in effecting positive change. Event included with admission.
