The Akron Zoo will celebrate Earth Day with their annual event, Party for the Planet, on April 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The zoo will honor some of their “superheroes” who are making a difference in the field of conservation and sustainability. Also any guests who wear a superhero costume or t-shirt will get 50 percent off admission.
Throughout the day guests can enjoy presentations from staff, aka, “superheroes” who have gone above and beyond for conservation and sustainability. Presentations will take place throughout the zoo, each half hour starting at 10:30 a.m., and includes talks on tigers, red pandas, organic waste, climate change, sustainable gardening and more.
The zoo will also be highlighting some of the animals' super abilities during their live animal superhero show at 11 a.m., noon, 2 and 3 p.m. in Nature's Theater. Plus the zoo will be collecting aluminum cans for their Cans for Corridor program. Any guest that brings in a bag of cans will be entered to win a get closer experience.
The Akron Zoo is open 361 days a year. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, $9 for children (ages 2 to 14). Children under age 2 are admitted free and parking is $3. For more information visit www.akronzoo.org or call 330- 375-2550.
